His determination surprises the court, as no prince has ever taken such a risk. The Emperor, moved by his son's courage, praises him but is met with concerns from advisors about the potential humiliation if the prince is captured. Yun Zheng, undeterred, requests a sword, vowing to take his own life rather than be taken prisoner. His resolve is unwavering, as he poetically reflects on the insignificance of life and death, comparing them to drifting in a foreign land. Meanwhile, news arrives that the Second Prince is recovering from his injuries, leading some to suggest the matter be dropped. The Emperor advises Yun Zheng to apologize to his brother, but the Third Prince refuses to back down. Frustrated, he threatens to end his life on the spot if he is not allowed to go to the frontier. His dramatic plea leaves the court in stunned silence, as Yun Zheng's determination to prove himself and protect the kingdom reaches a fever pitch.
