Molly Sadd und Jovian Duff sind tief verliebt, doch ihre Beziehung nimmt eine tragische Wendung. Am zweiten Tag ihrer Verlobung wird Molly von Jovians Verehrerin Kalyn Streep reingelegt, die eine Situation inszeniert, die den Anschein erweckt, als hätte Molly eine Affäre mit Jovians Cousin Eli Duff. Während Jovian auf einer Geschäftsreise abwesend ist, sperrt Kalyn sie ein, als ihr klar wird, dass Jovian immer noch Gefühle für Molly hegt zu ihnen nach Hause, was ihren Gesundheitszustand weiter verschlechterte. Schließlich bringt Kalyn Molly ins Krankenhaus, doch Eli greift heimlich ein, rettet Molly und inszeniert ihren vorgetäuschten Tod. Zwei Jahre später trifft Jovian auf Molly, die aufgrund einer Überdosis Drogen ihr Gedächtnis verloren hat, und löst damit seinen Versuch aus, seine Frau zurückzugewinnen.
