One hot day, Nate and his friends mock Zara, calling her names and belittling her efforts. Nate’s older sister, Xiaoyu, scolds him for allowing others to disrespect their mother. She reminds him that Zara’s sacrifices, including her injured leg, were made for his sake. Despite the taunts, Zara remains patient, expressing her only wish for her children’s safety and well-being. Later, Nate tries to take money Zara had saved for her medical treatment to buy a small fan, but Xiaoyu intervenes, urging him to return it. The scene highlights the tension between Zara’s selfless love and Nate’s growing selfishness.
  • Ep. 2
Zara Klein wakes her son, Nate, who seems disoriented. She reassures him, but he questions her about his missing brother, Kyle. Zara remains hopeful, insisting Kyle is alive and safe. Nate, however, dismisses her optimism, suggesting Kyle might be dead after twenty years. Zara offers Nate a piece of mooncake, symbolizing her prayers for Kyle’s safety, but Nate scoffs at the gesture. Nate then shifts the conversation, revealing his wife, Tiantian, is pregnant. He pressures Zara to sell their family home to buy a larger one for their growing family. Zara hesitates, torn between her longing for Kyle and Nate’s demands. Nate reassures her, promising to care for her and even Kyle if he ever returns. Despite his words, Zara’s heart aches, still searching for her lost son. The scene ends with Zara’s silent plea, wondering where Kyle could be.
  • Ep. 3
Zara, a humble village woman, arrives at a luxurious neighborhood to visit her son Nate, who has recently achieved success. However, she is met with skepticism by the security guard, who doubts her claim that her son owns a property in such an upscale area. Meanwhile, Nate faces pressure from his wife, who is pregnant and demands a larger villa, threatening to leave him if he fails to provide. Nate nervously promises to upgrade their home within six months, trying to appease her. As Zara waits, she reminisces about the past, recalling how Nate and her missing adopted son Kyle used to love her handmade mooncakes. She offers some to Nate, but he dismisses them, claiming that times have changed and people now prefer expensive, high-end goods. Zara, feeling out of place, is urged to leave, highlighting the growing emotional distance between her and Nate. The scene underscores the tension between Zara’s simple, heartfelt gestures and Nate’s materialistic, high-pressure lifestyle.
  • Ep. 4
Zara, a devoted mother, visits her son Nate, who has become successful but remains distant. She accidentally spills something on his expensive shoes and apologizes, offering to clean them. Nate, impatient, tells her to leave quickly. Zara reveals she has sold her house and has nowhere to go, but Nate coldly explains he’s staying with his in-laws and can’t accommodate her. Despite her struggles, Zara reassures him she can support herself by selling handmade pastries and urges him to take care of his family. As she leaves, Nate’s indifference is evident. Meanwhile, Jared Locke, Zara’s long-lost adopted son, now a wealthy man, reflects on the years Zara cared for him. He expresses gratitude for her love, contrasting sharply with Nate’s selfishness. Jared’s men are instructed to find Zara, showing his determination to repay her kindness. The scene shifts to Zara selling her traditional handmade pastries, a symbol of her resilience and love. The episode highlights the stark difference between Nate’s greed and Jared’s loyalty, underscoring the theme that blood doesn’t always define family.
  • Ep. 5
On a sweltering day, Zara Klein, a kind-hearted woman, offers cold drinks and homemade tangerine bean paste mooncakes to passersby. Her son, Nate, praises the mooncakes, expressing his love for her cooking. Zara humbly brushes off the compliment, emphasizing that the most important thing is being together as a family during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Meanwhile, Jared Locke, who was adopted by another family and is now a successful businessman, overhears the conversation. Intrigued, he instructs his assistant to find out where Zara lives. Upon seeing her, Jared realizes she is his long-lost mother. He approaches her, asking if she has any information about her missing son, unaware that he is speaking to his own mother. Zara, equally unaware, thanks him for his concern, hoping for a reunion with her lost child.
