  Wang Xiaolong is released from detention and returns home, where his mother is not present. His aunt informs him that his mother went to the Permits' house to resolve a dispute after they caused trouble at their home, demanding compensation for spiritual damages. Wang's mother pleads with the Permits to spare her son, offering them 30,000 yuan, all her savings. She acknowledges her son's mistake and asks for their mercy, promising to make amends. The scene unfolds with Wang's family facing pressure from the Permits, while Wang himself is trying to adjust to his new life after being released.
