To the cheerfully clueless Ethan, it seems like his overbearing mother and older brother are hell bent on sabotaging his entire life. The only person who seems to understand him is high school hottie Madison-not the real Madison, but the life sized cutout of her that's affixed to Ethan's closet door. When things at home become unbearable, Ethan heads out to California to spend the summer with his cousins. An already complicated situation spirals hopelessly out of control, however, when it becomes unmistakably apparent that Ethan's cousin Cleo wants to be more than just family.

- Ep. 1Ethan is having a frustrating morning at home with his family. He's arguing with someone about his underwear, insisting he wants plain white ones, not the ones that look like "panties." Meanwhile, someone is offering to send his yearbook and suggesting they could do something together sometime. The conversation is awkward and unclear. Later, Ethan is talking to someone else about buying flowers, but he doesn't have any money. The scene ends with a humorous comment about G.I. Joes being mistaken for panties. Ethan's home life is tense and uncomfortable, setting the stage for his escape to California.
- Ep. 2Ethan's family is discussing his situation, with someone suggesting he should go live with his cousin Asher for the summer. Ethan's brother teases him about a girl, asking if he hung out with Madison. Ethan confirms it's Madison, but his brother wonders if it's the real Madison or just her poster. The conversation turns emotional, with Ethan's brother saying that if he can't trust him, his looks mean nothing. Later, Ethan and someone else are out, stopping to buy flowers, and they spot Madison. Ethan's brother tells him to go buy their mom some flowers.
- Ep. 3Ethan visits a flower shop to buy flowers for his mom, but it's revealed that his mom isn't actually sick. He was just joking, and the flowers are really for someone else - likely Cleo, his cousin who has feelings for him. As they pick out flowers, their conversation suggests a growing connection between them. Meanwhile, someone watches from afar, seemingly disapproving of their interaction. The scene ends with a playful moment between Ethan and the flower shop worker, but also raises questions about the observer's intentions and the blossoming relationship between Ethan and Cleo.
- Ep. 4Ethan's life is about to get more complicated. He's excitedly discussing plans with someone, and it's revealed that he has a date. The conversation is filled with enthusiasm and affection, with Ethan exclaiming "Oh yeah!" and "I love you!" multiple times. It seems he's smitten with Madison, who leaves him a flirtatious message about meeting up in the commons after her dance practice to make "sweet sweet love." As Ethan reads the note, he's instructed to "stay right there," suggesting that someone is watching over him, possibly his cousin Cleo, who has her own feelings for him. The scene is set for a romantic and potentially awkward encounter.
- Ep. 5Ethan's family is discussing a video of him dancing, with his mom insisting it's him, despite Ethan's denials. Feeling overwhelmed, Ethan confesses he doesn't know what to do. Later, Ethan is having a conversation with someone, possibly his cousin Cleo, about picking colors for furniture. The conversation is casual, but Cleo seems to be trying to get Ethan's opinion, asking him what he thinks. The scene ends abruptly with Cleo saying "You..." and Ethan telling her to "Hold on."
