Susan Todd, héritière du riche Todds, a été enlevée alors qu'elle était enfant puis sauvée par Hans Lawson. En signe de gratitude, elle épouse Hans, qui est aujourd'hui PDG du groupe Lawson. Hans est à la recherche de la petite fille avec laquelle il a alors conclu un pacte de mariage. Ignorant que Susan est la bonne, Hans la force à divorcer, pour ensuite être submergé de regret lorsque Susan révèle plus tard sa véritable identité.
